When Sam Lombardo (Matt Dillon) a high school guidance counselor, is accused of rape by two female students who are on opposite ends of the social and economical ladder, things heat up as double crosses and betrayal become the name of the game in this classic 90s erotic thriller that put Denise Richards on the map and featured a nude scene by Kevin Bacon no was one was really prepared to see but seems only fair considering what else was on display here.
Two achingly hot flirty girls give every guy in the theater a reason to hate the ever lovin’ heck out of Dillon for being probably the single luckiest man in all of cinema history. Oh, and Bill Murray is funny.
Double crosses and shenanigans are the name of the game, and while we are sure something is a foul, we have no clue who is doing what to whom. On the case is a smarmy detective who is pretty sure one of the lovelies involved is up to some sexual scheming. He drops by the swimming pool to let her know and offer some friendly advice.
Kelly Van Ryan (Richards) ever so slowly emerges from the water in a one piece, baby blue bathing suit that leaves very little to the imagination making sexy the name game. It’s all about distraction, the girl, who has known only that her looks make all the difference, doing what she thinks she does best in toying with the crowd watching. That works both with those in the story and us watching, our bases sensibilities struggling to get past the physicality of her beauty in making larger judgements, helped all the more with the erotic sounds of Morphine accompanying her rise from the water. This is where the detective finds himself, and it’s fun to watch how the smoldering Ryan believes her appearance takes hold of the situation. And then he drops the hammer. Threesomes don’t work out. It’s a fun, albeit brief movie moment.
