Dwayne Johnson Video Game Adaptation ‘Rampage’ Official Trailer

Rampage is a 2018 action thriller based on the classic 1980s video game featuring apes and monsters destroying cities.

If there is one good thing CGI can do fo us, it’s this, turn classic beloved video games into realistic action adventures, and who else than over-the-top action hero Dwayne Johnson to be the guy who stands at the very center of it. He’s paired up with several of Hollywood’s biggest stars but perhaps now he’s finally found a partner more dynamic than him. A massive ape.If you don’t know the origins, the game of the same name is mostly an excuse to utterly destroy cities, with an ape, a lizard and wolf, all of whom have been transformed by various means into building sized beast to wreak havoc on screen. The film follows pretty close, at least judging by this trailer, though obvious adding humans into the story.

Directed by Brad Peyton, and marking the third time he and Johnson have worked together (Journey 2: The Mysterious Island and San Andreas), this looks to be all action with plenty of mayhem, something Johnson is very familiar with in his long career. Admittedly, the film looks entirely goofy, but that is greatly superseded by a knee-jerk reaction to yell, “Hell yeah!” almost the entire way through this. Let’s hope this breaks the game to movie tradition of being really bad.

Rampage releases April 20.
