Greatest Bets on Screen

There have been lots of gambling in the movies, but have you ever wonder what are the Greatest Best on Screen?

You might be surprised to know that some of the craziest on-screen gambling tales are actually based on true stories. While Hollywood often takes a little bit of creative license with the on-screen story, the people and events these movies and TV shows are based on really existed. VegasSlotsOnline.com have created a fun infographic that details some of the biggest on-screen wins and losses of all time, some based on truth, some fiction and some plain ridiculous.

Take the movie ‘21’ for example. Starring Jim Sturgess and Kate Bosworth, the story follows that of the real-life MIT Blackjack Team, consisting of a group of mathematical geniuses who made a fortune counting cards in the 80s. While that part is true, the actual series of events that happen in the movie were a little more dramatic than those in real life. The movie sees the team clean up $650,000 on their final night of gambling alone, enough to set anyone up for the rest of their lives.

Heading over to TV, ‘Boardwalk Empire’ documents another huge gambling win in season 4. The TV show itself is set in Prohibition-era New Jersey and is based on well-known figures from the time. Steve Buscemi plays politician Enoch ‘Nucky’ Thompson, with well-known gangsters like ‘Lanksy’, the mob’s accountant, and Arnold Rothstein, the man who rigged the World Cup featuring in the show. In this episode, Nucky enters a game against the gangsters and manages to win $400,000 at the time, equivalent to about $5.5 million today.

While stories based on truth add a bit of historical excitement to the screen, sometimes it’s fun to get lost in the world of fiction. Outrageous Hollywood scenarios like ‘What Happens in Vegas’ entertain us on a lighthearted note, where two strangers meet and marry in Vegas, then accidentally win a $3 million jackpot on a slot machine with a single quarter. In order to keep the winnings, they must stay together for 6 months to prove they truly have given their unwanted marriage a chance.

It probably comes as no surprise that the biggest win on the infographic comes from James Bond film ‘Casino Royale’. The legendary MI6 agent battles through love, loss and poisoning to come through in the end and win $115 million against a terrorist financier in Texas hold ‘em.

These and other exciting on-screen bets are all documented on the infographic, so we’ll leave it up to you to decide which one is truly the best bet of all time.
