June 2018 Mobile Games Roundup

PARKER & LANE: CRIMINAL JUSTICE, 2018 © Big Blue Studios
We’re halfway done with 2018 and it’s time once again to check out a few standouts so far. This time, it’s our rundown of some notable mobile games of June.

Retro Highway (Dumb Luck Games)

Retro Highway takes us on a motorcycle ride through obstacles, traffics and wild many locations … including the moon. It’s a classic endless runner model designed to last as long as you can while you try to achieve various objectives with procedurally-generated maps that create different traffic intervals and each map has their own distinction. There are maps to unlock and accumulated coins that help to buy new motorcycles. Whether it’s the retro style or the challenging nature, Retro Highway is heaps of addictive fun. Vrooom.

Rhythm Star: Musical Adventure (Anbsoft)

No surprise here. Straight up, Rhythm Star is a musical adventure. You go from one level to the next just like you would in Candy Crush or other puzzle games from one part to the next. There are a few characters but not much of a significant storyline. The rhythms are quite basic with only three buttons (and a random 4 buttons on one level). However, you could increase the challenge by increasing the speed. The music choices are pretty good with some mixes of popular classical music and other random songs. With each level, you unlock money, gems and characters which level up with the earnings as they accumulate enough points to do so. It’s a relaxing a little game that lacks a larger challenge for seasoned rhythm gamers.

Bushido Bear – Spry Fox

Spry Fox seems to be really into adorable little teddy bears. As they move past Alphabear (our review), now they’ve got Bushido Bear. It’s a game where you trace the trajectory of how your bear slashes through its enemies, one wave after another, seeing just how far you can go. The cute enemies come in variety from fire shooting archers to triplet morphing fairies (and so much more) mounting the difficult moments to anticipate where to draw the lines to slash but not touch them. At the same time, different bears can be unlocked after achieving certain goals, each fitted with their own special abilities to make them useful. Great fun for on the go.

Parker & Lane: Criminal Justice (GameHouse)

Feeling a bit like a Diner Dash set in a crime spree, Parker & Lane: Criminal Justice sees us following novice investigator Parker on her journey through her new position as she helps gather clues at various crime scenes. The game focuses on her delegating the forensic team (and other people for other scenarios) to their tasks like getting their equipment while all being done in a timely fashion. It gets hectic and crazy as the level has more people lining up luckily there are power-ups that can be bought with in-game currency to alleviate some of the business.

Fast Like a Fox (WayBefore Ltd.)

Race through a multitude of levels with your trusty little fox as fast as you can or as slow as you want. Making it to the final gem in the least amount of time is only part of the objectives because getting those different colored gems strewn across the levels are also important to unlock the next area if not it’s time for the grind. Luckily these levels are fairly short and it does have a  kind of checkpoint system. Despite its different areas, Fast Like A Fox is quite basic. It has its challenges but not one that holds the attention for too long. It’s perfect for something quick but lacks the uniqueness to be one to go back to frequently. Still, worth a play.
