Thank you for talking with me about your new movie Opus of an Angel. It’s a pleasure to have this opportunity. Let’s start with you. Tell our readers a little bit about yourself.

Hi, my name is Kaylynn Kubeldis. I attend California School for the Blind (CSB). I enjoy reading and writing stories with my friends.

This is your film debut. Have you always wanted to be an actress?

It wasn’t always something I imagine myself doing, but now that I’ve had the opportunity I would love too.

How did you get involved with the movie?

At the time I was a part of a program at Junior Blind of America. I was invited to audition.

Tell us about the character you portray.

I portray the character Maria, a blind elementary school student who lives with her single mother. On the day Doctor Stephen Murphy is traveling to all the places he intends to visit, Maria is separated from her class on a field trip and is hit by a car. Throughout the day, as he is helping her get back to either her class or her home, she reminds him how good life can be.

I’ve seen the movie. You’re a real natural on camera. What did you like most about being Maria?

Thank you, the thing I enjoyed most about being Maria was how easy it was to slip into her character.  So many of her remarks were my natural responses, many times I felt that the only differences were our name and age. I believe playing a character that matches your natural personality makes everything that much more natural.

What was your favorite part about making the movie?

My favorite part of making the movie was recording the scenes themselves, my favorite, was the rain scene, because I found that part very enjoyable, but I loved the whole plot of the movie, the storyline itself.

Do you think you will continue to act? What do you see yourself doing in ten years?

I do see myself continuing to act in the future. It wasn’t a career path I imagined myself in before, but having had the opportunity, I do find that I enjoy it quite a bit. As for what I see myself doing in ten years, I admit I haven’t really thought that far. I don’t really think very far into the future, because I believe that if you spend too much time planning, you miss much of your present life.

If you could make your own movie, what would it be about?

If I could make my own movie, I am unsure of what the exact storyline would be, but I am certain of what I would want the theme to be. I would like the theme to be centered around not focusing on appearances. Of seeing past a physical appearance, and seeing the personality, which is the more important factor.

Whom do you admire most in movies?

There are many admirable people in movies and there are qualities in many people I respect, but I don’t aspire to be like them. The way I see it, I am myself and trying to be like someone else is not being true to myself. I believe it is good to distinguish between admiring traits in a person and trying to turn yourself into that person.

IS THERE A moment IN OPUS OF AN ANGEL that you like best or that you found powerful for you?

I can relate to quite a few moments in Opus of an Angel. Maria was able to bring light into Dr. Murphy’s darkest moments of his life and form a deep bond. It was so powerful. It showed me the time you know someone does not have to be an indication of connection. You could become closer to someone you’ve only known for a short time vs. years.

Thanks so much for talking with me. I wish you lots of luck with the film and also with your future.

I am just so grateful for the opportunity to be a part of this amazing film. Everyone was wonderful to me and I had a wonderful time!
