New ‘Mission: Impossible – Fallout’ Trailer Is Action Insanity

Mission:  Impossible – Fallout is a 2018 action film about Ethan Hunt and his IMF team, along with some familiar allies, who race against time after a mission gone wrong.

The first trailer for Mission: Impossible – Fallout set the bar high. We were treated to some top-notch action, a mysterious plot, and Henry Cavill with an uppercut that could go through a brick wall. Today the second trailer dropped for Fallout, and WOW. It manages to outshine the first as we get a much better feel for what the plot is looking like, along with who exactly Ethan Hunt (Tom Cruise) is going to square off against.

The new trailer opens in a similar fashion to the first, with a Solomon Lane (Sean Harris) voice over foreshadowing bad things to come for Ethan. We then learn that Lane escapes a prison transfer in Paris. Following this some background is given on August Walker (Cavill), the CIA agent who is being brought in to, presumably, oversee Hunt and his team. Luther Stickell (Ving Rhames) tells Ethan that he’s not just an observer, he’s an assassin. If Ethan goes rogue on the mission, Walker has authorization to kill him. We get a glimpse of Ethan and Julia (Michelle Monaghan) getting married (again) alongside a lake (possibly Wanaka from MI:III), but they’re interrupted as an explosion goes off in the distance. Ilsa Faust (Rebecca Ferguson) is back and pleads with Ethan not to make her go through him, just before we see her firing upon him as he runs her over with a car. So it’s safe to say their governments are at odds again. Of course all the while we get to see plenty of nail-biting action, a motorcycle chase through Paris, a helicopter chase in god knows where, and what might wind up being the best fight scene of the MI franchise.

Trailers are made to make movies look amazing. Having said that, there’s no way this movie isn’t good. The M:I formula is simple enough, have plenty of ridiculous action, mix in some laughs, and let Tom Cruise do his thing. From everything I’ve seen, this movie will easily check those boxes. On top of that, Harris is being brought back as the villain, possibly paired with Cavill (who looks AWESOME). The M:I franchise has gone up and down with having memorable villains, with the late Philip Seymour Hoffman being the best of them all. Harris did a solid job playing a menacing, calculated psychopath, so it’s nice to see him taking the reins again. On top of all this, Fallout has a cast and crew that speaks for itself with writer/director Christopher McQuarrie from Rogue Nation coming back, Simon Pegg is back, Alec Baldwin is back, and Angela Basset is joining the fun. All in all, this movie is shaping up to be the epitome of a summer blockbuster that promises a ton of fun.
