Montreal Comiccon 2018: Playstation, Nintendo and More Gaming

The Montreal Comiccon features comic books, toys, games, science-fiction, horror, anime, non-sport cards and collectibles.

While the Indie Game Zone is a dominant part of the Montreal Comiccon, Playstation and Nintendo are heavy-hitters as well, showcasing a wide variety of games for Playstation 4, PSVR and Nintendo Switch. Here’s what they had on to show.

Playstation

Like previous years, Playstation came in with a huge booth showcasing a wide variety of games available to the public. In terms of normal consoles, they had popular first person shooter, Call of Duty: Black Ops 3. If you were excited to try out Marvel’s Spider-Man, you also get a chance to check it out here. For a little more nostalgia, you could try out Spyro: Reignited Trilogy to see how the remastered version of this adorable purple dragon plays. Just like Crash N.Sane Trilogy had a nice facelift, Spyro is looking and playing great.

In terms of PSVR, there is a huge push on this as always. There is no doubt that the games here are interesting to say the least. It had some impressive titles. For those who saw the reveal of Tetris Effect, they could try it here. Beat Saber is a rhythm game that requires not only hitting the keys with the different colored sabers but also moving to avoid some of the obstacles. Nothing like VR to put you in the boxing ring in the upcoming game, Creed: Rise to Glory which is set for release in Fall 2018. Aside from that, Astro Bot Rescue Mission is a platformer filled with little cute robots from the developers of The Playroom which features a Bot captain having to rescue his lost crew. Finally, Blood & Truth is an upcoming title which takes place in the gritty London underground where you play a special agent that has to shoot his way to save his family from a crime lord.

Nintendo

Nintendo continues this year featuring games from Nintendo Switch, the console that has brought a lot of titles and acquired even more independent titles since its launch. It’s no surprise that they brought some popular titles to the show with their iconic franchises: Mario Tennis Aces, Super Mario Odyssey and of course, Mario Kart. They also bring along Splatoon 2 as well as the recently Nintendo Switch ported popular battle royale game, Fortnite.

Dreamhack Zone

Situated in their own room, the Dreamhack Zone gave space for gamers to try out two VR games. One is Beat Saber which is also available at the Playstation booth. The second is by a company called Aperium who shared their technology to make a more immersive virtual reality experience. This involves adding integrated movement with a giant rolling carpet which has the cables of the VR headset rigged to run over the top. The game they showed is called Dead End where you have a gun as the controller and its first person shooter where you walk through this demo killing zombies. One of the great things about these shows is to see how far technology has gone and the innovative ways people will create to increase the immersion of gaming. Dreamhack Montreal will be held in the Montreal Olympic Stadium on September 7 to 9, 2018.
