On Netflix Now: We’re Watching ‘The Bad Batch’
The Bad Batch is a 2017 sci-fi romance about a young woman caught in a dystopian landscape filled with cannibal savages and romance.
Maybe not for everyone, this weird dystopian adventure is a wild ride with some outstanding visuals and a curious story that wanders a bit amid the action. From director Ana Lily Amirpour, it stars Suki Waterhouse as Arlen who lives in a time where society’s least desirables are banished into a wasteland to fend for themselves. Divided into clans of all kinds of strangeness, she must survive bodybuilding cannibals and a ‘peaceful’ settlement of sorts led by Keanu Reeves and his got-toting harem. Certainly a trippy experience, this is a stylish thriller with lots of graphic gore and plenty of symbolism along the way. Genre fans will soak it up. Give it a try. Read our full review.
THE LAST WORD
A visually-stunning film with some truly creative directing helps this unique tale set itself apart. If you like hardcore madness, this is a must.
At two hours, it can sometimes feel padded, and an ambiguous story might make it a little frustrating for those looking for a straight-up action adventure.
