On Netflix Now: We’re Watching ‘Caddyshack’

Caddyshack is a 1980 comedy about an exclusive golf course that has to deal with a brash new member and a destructive dancing gopher.

With the recent release of A Futile and Stupid Gesture, about the rise of National Lampoon and its core founder Doug Kenney, we natural went straight to Netflix to see how many of his films were streaming and stopped as soon as we saw this classic comedy. An absurd yet very funny compilation of sorts with an ensemble cast of some of the era’s biggest names in laughter, it follows the outrageous shenanigans at a golf club, giving pros like Chevy ChaseBill MurrayRodney Dangerfield, and Ted Knight a stage to do some of their best work on screen. Not to mention a gopher that just about steals the entire show. Even if you’ve never seen this movie, you know the name and it’s time you finally checked this off your list. It’s a must.

THE LAST WORD

More than a string of comic bits, this is a genuinely good story with loads of well-earned laughs and a not a bad joke in the mix. Inspired lunacy.

Comedy can be subjective and this off brand style might not be for everyone, however if a dancing gopher can’t make you laugh, perhaps nothing will.
