On Netflix Now: We’re Watching ‘Chloe’

Chloe is a 2009 drama about a doctor who hires an escort to seduce her husband, whom she suspects of cheating, though unforeseen events put the marriage in danger.

With raw sexual undertones at its core, director Atom Egoyan goes about creating a deeply seductive yet mesmerizing chiller that deviates from the standard greatly, led by a superb performance from the sultry Amanda Seyfried. Centered on a wife named Catherine (Julianne Moore), a doctor who suspects her college professor husband David (Liam Neeson) is having an affair with a student, the film lures us into one direction before taking us into another. This puts Catherine in contact with Chloe, a young woman who is a highly-skilled call girl, experienced and far from naive. What follows is a twisted affair of misdirection and manipulation that sees these three characters collide in unconventional ways. This is a top-notch little thriller with Seyfried at her on-screen best.

THE LAST WORD

Smart, sexy, and very well acted, it’s how it keeps you part of the experience that works best, leaving you with questions about what it all means.

An ambiguous ending meant to provoke questions might leave some feeling unsatisfied.
