On Netflix Now: We’re Watching ‘Crossing Point’

CROSSING POINT IS A 2016 DRAMA ABOUT A YOUNG AMERICAN MAN FORCED TO WORK FOR A DANGEROUS DRUG SMUGGLER WHEN HIS GIRLFRIEND IS KIDNAPPED AND USED AS BAIT TO MAKE HIM RUN HIS DRUGS.

The suddenly missing girlfriend is practically a trope in movies now, and few offer much more than a guy forced to step it up to get her back, battling his way through a small army of baddies to save the day. So it kind of is with Daniel Zirilli‘s Crossing Point, though there’s plenty here to help give this a boost. It follows young Michael (Shawn Lock), who travels to Mexico with his gal Olivia (María Gabriela de Faría) to party and surf, however one day when she disappears, he gets a disturbing message from a local crime kingpin that tells him he’s got to run some drugs over the border or Olivia will die. And he’s only got twelve hours to do it. But that’s only the start of his troubles and there are some twists along the way that will change everything. Lots of good action and a good performance from De Faría help this sometimes clever thriller. Read our full review here.

THE LAST WORD

Great script and a few very well-directed moments keep this a step above along with a genuinely gritty and authentic feel.

Star Shawn Lock doesn’t quite have the presence the role demands and there are some awkward moments with supporting characters that distract.
