On Netflix Now: We’re Watching ‘I Love You, Man’
I Love You, Man is a 2009 comedy about a guy looking for a friend, eventually finding one that puts some stress on his relationship with his fiancée.
The rise of the bromance movie kinda reached its peak in the Hangover era with a string of movies that sort of experimented with the theme and while those movies surely made hanging out with the boys fun and a little awkward, perhaps John Hamburg‘s I Love You, Man serves as the most accomplished of them all. It follows a lovable sap named Peter (played by national treasure Paul Rudd), who is about to marry the affectionate and supportive Zooey (Rashida Jones), but since he’s got not a one single friend to call on, who’s gonna be the Best Man? Enter carefree Sydney Fife (Jason Segel), a guy who redefines laid back and easy to chill with. Think that will be a problem? Count on it.
THE LAST WORD
Paul Rudd saves this movie. He’s absolutely the funniest thing going and is so endearing, he shoots the movie to the moon. A great performance.
It goes on a little too long and wraps up in a kind of predictable way with a few subplots that don’t quite feel necessary. Minor distractions.
