On Netflix Now: We’re Watching ‘Salt’

Salt is a 2010 thriller about a CIA agent who goes on the run after a defector accuses her of being a Russian spy.

Probably most notable for being the Tom Cruise action movie that never was – he having dropped out of the film – Philip Noyce‘s Salt is nonetheless a pretty entertaining bit of silly fun, with some terrific stunt work and an inspired performance from new star Angelina Jolie. She plays the titular Salt, a CIA agent who gets a rather rude awakening when a Russian spy walks in from the street and informs her that she’s actually working for his side and her next target is the Russian President. Well that changes things. Mostly a chase movie, it’s got plenty of great vehicular mayhem and a decent story with a tough as nails Jolie kick butt left and right. If you’re looking for some thrills from one of the best director’s in the genre, here you are.

THE LAST WORD

Jolie does action well and Noyce is a master at keeping things charged, making this a solid entry in the genre.

While it begins pretty well grounded it becomes more like a cartoon the longer the story progresses, tainting a few key moments in the finale.
