New ‘Suicide Squad’ Trailer Is Gloriously Crazy (And now with 100% More Joker)

Getting tired of superhero movies where the good guys get all the fun? Well things are about to change. Time for the worst of the worst in comic villains to get their day in the Sun, and Suicide Squad looks to be that movie. With a great line up of characters and stars, the newest trailer is here and sets the anticipation levels to super overdrive.

Suicide Squad is a dark and gritty incarnation of the famed comic book series, directed by David Ayer and starring Will Smith as Deadeye, Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn and Jared Leto as the Joker, among many others, including a cameo by Ben Affleck as Batman, hinting to the origins of the Joker and Caped Crusader relationship. But you didn’t come here to read. You came to watch.

The trailer reveals a lot more Joker, who has been mostly absent from a lot of the marketing but takes up a significant chuck of this clip. The tone is dark but fun, like Guardians of the Galaxy except with villains rather than heroes. The trailer is expectedly explosive but also hints at some possible emotional tugs, especially with Smith’s Deadshot. Surprisingly, it isn’t he nor Joker that make the most impression. It’s Robbie’s Harley Quinn who stands above the pack, uniformly psychotic throughout, she delivers the best quotes and has most memorable impact, providing the funniest but also somewhat chilling last line.

Little is known about the plot, but the collective bad guys are assembled by a secret government agency run by Amanda Waller (Viola Davis), named A.R.G.U.S. They task the bad guys with taking on, well, suicide missions to save the world. Nothing wrong can come from that, right?

Suicide Squad is set to open in wide release this August. Stay tuned for more.
