Here’s The Best Game Reveals From The Playstation Experience 2016

The 3rd Annual Playstation Experience is here, and it’s the big event of weekend if you’re any kind of gamer fan, just so happening to coincide with Playstation’s 22nd birthday since the launch of the first Playstation console in Japan. What better way to celebrate than to have an opening conference filled with great new trailers and insider news? Here are the highlights of the event.

Uncharted: The Lost Legacy

Sony always knew how to open their show. We said it before at the E3 conference and so it proves again. Their first trailer came out of the left field in the form of an Uncharted 4 Chapter DLC but also a standalone game that is in development right now. This is an eight minute footage so it holds a lot of promise, especially with it being set in India and doesn’t feature Nathan Drake from what we see here.

Equally it’s exciting to not only see a strong female Indian character in gaming (finally) as seen during the ass kicking finale, but also to see the game using a setting which really hasn’t been used until now.

The Last of Us: Part 2

The Last of Us: Part 2 ends the show as the special unveil. It is currently in the very early stages of development but despite this the team managed to put together a pretty impressive trailer showing Ellie all grown up.

This was unquestionably the best game they could have ended on, more so when no one knew it was even in production so unsurprisingly when the internet went into meltdown once the audience realised what they were watching.

Considering how soon this game is coming out after years of delays, perhaps its appearance at the conference was a way to reassure us all that the game is actually now finished and finally coming out. Needless to say this is unquestionably one of the big Playstation exclusive titles and from the footage we see here looks like it’s set to be well worth the wait.

Parappa the Rapper/ Patapon/ Loco Roco

There was quite a bit of remaster news going on. One of the most exciting is Parappa the Rapper whose remaster comes on the eve of it’s 20th Anniversary (boy, does that make us feel old) with Patapon and Loco Roco also being remastered for Playstation 4. As fans of all of these games, it is great to see them being continued on. The good news doesn’t stop there. Parappa the Rapper remaster has a demo available now on the Playstation Store.

Crash Bandicoot: N. Sane Trilogy

One of the highlights of Playstation’s E3 conference was the announcement that they were going to remaster Crash Bandicoot and now they have a trailer for it showing the comparison of the original to the remaster which appears to have rebuilt the first three games from the group up, though it is unclear from the footage we saw if this means that the problematic camera angles which plagued the games on their original release have been corrected or not.

Released as a N.Sane Trilogy. There’s nothing like playing Crash, spinning and jumping and avoiding explosives and traps in fun maps and hopefully this will lead to some new adventures for the crazy marsupial.

Marvel vs. Capcom Infinite

Initially this game had been dismissed as nothing but a rumour and judging by some of the crowd reactions heard during the conference it’s clear that this was one of the more popular titles, despite not being one of the current top tier fighters especially considering Street Fighter V’s current domination of the market.

It remains to be seen if the game will still have the same levels of popularity when it’s released, especially with none of the X-men characters currently scheduled to appear in the game something which when you look at the previous rosters is a sizeable dent, though the cynic in us expects that they will reappear later as a DLC.

Marvel vs. Capcom Infinite is set for 2017 release, while you can get Marvel Vs.Capcom: Ultimate Edition via the Playstation store now.

Resident Evil 7 Biohazard

There is no doubt that Resident Evil 7 is probably one of the most anticipated titles coming early next year, January 24th to be exact. It is also maybe the first big title out next year (but we haven’t looked at the 2017 release calender close enough to be sure). Resident Evil 7 has already had two demos and with this ‘Tape 3 trailer’, it is also the final demo trailer which is currently available on Playstation Store. We took a look at the last demo update and gave impressions and we will probably be doing an impressions very soon for this final demo as well.

GT Sport

Gran Turismo always takes it time to release its next installment though it pays off in both the quality and authenticity as seen with Gran Turismo 6. It was a little sad that they joined into all the delay announcements this year but if it means a better game, then we’re all for it. GT Sport is the latest addition to the series and it sure is looking good especially with Playstation no doubt keen to best its Xbox rival Forza Motorsport.

If Resident Evil 7 didn’t make PS VR a little more attractive, maybe the die hard racing gamers will be converted with their VR compatible announcement. It is set for a 2017 release.

Street Fighter V

Street Fighter V was released earlier this year. A few months later, they added in the story DLC and some new characters. This time, they reveal that there will be six more characters added in. The first out of the gates will be long-awaited Akuma with some awesome new moves.

Wipeout Omega Collection

Anyone who remembers the original launch of the Playstation will know just how important Wipeout was the console’s success as the original game was installed in nightclub gaming pods, which essentially ushered in a new era of gaming.

Bundling HD, Fury and 2046 together it’s unquestionably one of the most exciting of the remastered games being showcased a process which hopefully will have retained its iconic soundtrack which set the game to a backdrop of hip dance music from the likes of Orbital and The Prodigy.

Horizon Zero Dawn

Horizon Zero Dawn is looking more and more intriguing with every trailer it releases. Another brand new trailer was shown at this show. The world of machines that has taken over the entire land and the search for secrets adds more to what the story is. It is set for release on February 28, 2017.

Ni No Kuni 2: Revenant Kingdom

An eagerly awaited sequel to the cult RPG which might have slipped under the radar for many but seeing this trailer was like being reunited with an old friend. Retaining the same distinctive art style and colourful characters of the first game it makes a fun and more fantastical alternative to the polished world of Final Fantasy XV.

Indie Games

What type of highlight would it be without some independent games in the mix, right? Playstation made sure to address this with a segment focused on it. They had a showcase to give us a first look at some upcoming indie games that will land on Playstation 4. But they also took a more in-depth look at some specific titles coming out in 2017.

The two that stood out for us though was Vane and What Remains of Edith Finch? Check out the trailers above.

Overall, Playstation Experience 2016’s opening conference show presented a lot of new trailers from games we’ve heard of to games that we haven’t. There was as to be expected a focus on upcoming PS VR titles which remains as divisive as ever with the titles being shown here unlikely to change your opinion if you’re currently viewing the tech as gimmick. More surprisingly was how hard Playstation are pushing the Vita releases this year as we heard a strong reinforcement of those titles which would be on both the main console and Vita as it seems that Sony is not really just yet to give up on the handheld market no doubt even more now with the forthcoming release of the Nintendo NX.

Amongst the heavy hitters there was several fun surprises to be found as Krank 2 and Yakuza 6 though fans of that one will have to wait until 2018. There’s also DLCs coming out like a Raven’s Choice for Gravity Rush 2 and The Dawning for Destiny which showcased the return of the Icebreaker amongst its many bonuses.

Finally, there was games launched that very day such as Mother Russia Bleeds and most importantly, Let It Die which is being offered for free. Lots of games to get hyped up for! 2017 looks like it potentially could be amazing!
