On Netflix Now: We’re Watching ‘What Happened to Monday’

What Happened To Monday is a 2017 sci-fi thriller about a world where families are limited to one child due to overpopulation, and a set of identical septuplets must avoid being put to a long sleep by the government while investigating the disappearance of one of their own.

Pretty much a tour de force from Noomi Rapace, who plays no less than seven characters here and does so with absolute fearlessness, making this easy to recommend. A bendy twister set in the future, it sees a time when governments have clamped down on a one-child-only law and all others are humanely cryogenically frozen through a program led by run by Dr. Nicolette Cayman (Glenn Close). And if you believe that, well you’ve got surprises coming. Great action, a very cool story, and one heckuva performance from Rapace make this a sure bet. Tommy Wirkola directs this dystopian breakdown with a small role for Willem Dafoe. Read our review.

THE LAST WORD

What’s better than one Noomi Rapace? Seven, and she delivers with characters so vivid, you’ll forget it’s only one actress. She alone makes this more than worth a watch.

It’s all a little familiar and by the end you’ll pretty much have it solved and there just isn’t enough Glenn Close or Willem Dafoe.
