April Guide to In-Theater Movies

Monthly Movie Guide is a monthly series to keep you the moviegoer updated about upcoming in-theater big studio films in release.

April is coming and there are lots of great movies to look forward to, but we’re going to concentrate on a few of the biggest titles coming to theaters. Here’s a quick recap of a blockbusters coming our way this month.

A Quiet Place

April 6

Silence is golden in this horror film where the world has been taken over by monsters that attack upon hearing sound. John Krasinski directs and stars alongside real-life wife, Emily Blunt, as they attempt to survive with their two small children. Based on the trailer I’d say you can expect to be jumping out of your seat in this one.

You Were Never Really Here

April 6

Joaquin Phoenix stars as the soft spoken, hammer-wielding veteran who tracks down missing girls for a living. This thriller that looks to be short on dialogue and heavy on violence is almost reminiscent of a Nicolas Winding Refn film, let’s hope we get the next Drive and not the next Only God Forgives. Either way, we should be getting a very powerful performance from Phoenix.

Truth or Dare

April 13

My pick for the sleeper horror movie of the year. Didn’t know anything about this one until catching the trailer during a recent trip to the theater, and WOW does this look freaky. The plot is simple enough, teens enter a deadly game of truth or dare, but these faces that they make in the trailer have been haunting me. Don’t count on sleeping after this one.

Rampage

April 13

Admittedly, I was concerned upon hearing this movie was getting released, but after a couple trailers my faith has been instilled. Dwayne Johnson stars in the video-game adaptation about biologically engineered, giant animals who are attacking major cities in the US. Based on the trailers this one looks to be bringing big action and cheap laughs to the table, and isn’t taking itself too seriously. Self awareness is the key to success here.

Super Troopers 2

April 20

Let’s hope that the Broken Lizard gang is just trying to avoid spoilers by not divulging too much in the first trailers that we’ve seen, because so far things aren’t looking good. They’re back again as the wacky highway patrolmen with questionable antics and awesome gags. I loved the first one and am hoping that they actually came up with a story for the sequel, and weren’t just looking for paychecks.

Avengers: Infinity War

April 27

The Russo Brothers are at it again with what could quite possibly be the biggest movie release of all time. They’ve brought us success before giving the best action of the Marvel series with The Winter Soldier and Civil War, and are now tasked with bringing every single Marvel character still alive into the mix to battle against the ruthless Thanos. It will be quite a challenge, but based on the first two trailers I’d say we’re in for a treat. The issue that we’re likely going to run into here is wishing that the movie was six hours long, but I guess that’s why there’s a sequel.
