Your In-Theater Movie Guide for April 2019

Pet Sematary

April 5

Stephen King’s classic novel returns to the big screen with a new adaptation from directors Kevin Kolsch and Dennis Widmeyer. Jason Clarke stars as the father of a family that suffers a tragic loss. In order to cope with this, he attempts to use the Pet Sematary to bring a family member back from the dead, and runs into tragic consequences from the evil that follows. John Lithgow and Amy Seimetz star as well.

Shazam!

April 5

DC’s newest franchise about a young boy who takes on magical superpowers once he is deemed worthy by a mysterious wizard. Zachary Levi stars in this superhero feature that looks to be bringing even more laughs than action. With the current state of DC weighing on the success of Wonder Woman and Aquaman, it’s crucial that Shazam! is a hit and becomes a new pillar for the universe to stand on. Djimon Honsou and Mark Strong also star here.

Hellboy

April 12

Another big screen reboot with David Harbour attempting to fill the shoes of former Hellboy star, Ron Perlman. Neil Marshall directs this feature where Hellboy takes on a vengeful sorceress (Milla Jovovich) as he is caught between the worlds of the supernatural and humans. A big difference with this reboot will be the R-rating, where the violence, gore and language promise to be upped compared to what we saw from director Guillermo Del Toro’s original two films. The trailers so far seem underwhelming with an abundance of CGI, so here’s to hoping the actual film has more to offer.

The Curse of La Llorona

April 19

With 2019 still looking for its first big horror release, The Curse of La Llorona could be timed perfectly in between a few big releases to find some surprising success. Linda Cardinelli stars as the mother of children who are drawn into a frightening supernatural realm where they are haunted by the evil La Llorona.

Avengers: Endgame

April 26

A decade in the making, here we have the climax of the Marvel Avengers series. With Thanos (Josh Brolin) having wiped out half the universe during the finale of Avengers: Infinity War, it’s up to our remaining superheroes (Robert Downey Jr., Brie Larson, Chris Evans, Scarlett Johansson, Jeremy Renner, Mark Ruffalo, Chris Hemsworth) to avenge the fallen. Following the MASSIVE success of Infinity War a mere year ago, Endgame has a strong shot at being the largest movie release of all time. Whatever you do in 2019, do NOT miss seeing this release on the big screen.
