Thoughts on ‘Avengers: Infinity War’ Trailer 2

Avengers: Infinity War is a 2018 superhero film about The Avengers and their allies who must be willing to sacrifice all in an attempt to defeat the powerful Thanos before his blitz of devastation and ruin puts an end to the universe.

Marvel has recently unveiled the second Avengers: Infinity War trailer, and the excitement keeps building! We’re just over a month away from the actual release of the movie, and it recently occurred to me that this may wind up being the largest movie release of all time. The Russo Brothers have directed two of the best Marvel movies to date, and now the only question is can they handle balancing so many characters in a single film? (I’m guessing yes).

This trailer begins with Gamora (Zoe Saldana) explaining to Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.) that if Thanos (Josh Brolin) gets all of the Infinity Stones, he’ll be able to fulfill his plan of wiping out half the universe. We are then shown where two of the remaining Stones lie, one with Dr. Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch) and one in Vision’s (Paul Bettany) head. That’s probably going to be very bad news for Vision. We get a glimpse of some new gear that Spiderman (Tom Holland) and Iron Man will be wielding, and it also looks like they’ll be teaming up with Star Lord (Chris Pratt) and Drax (Dave Bautista) for a bit of the movie. Captain America (Chris Evans) and Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson) have made their way to Wakanda, and it looks like they’ll eventually be joined by Hulk (Mark Ruffalo), Falcon (Anthony Mackie), War Machine (Don Cheadle), and the Winter Soldier (Sebastian Stan) as well. After that we are hit with some unsettling parts of the trailer. First, we see Gamora holding Thanos’s hand, hopefully this is merely a flashback. Second, we see Thor screaming aloud as Thanos is quite possibly crushing his skull. Third, Dr. Strange is writhing in pain as an unknown villain (who looks like Voldemort) performs some sort of torture on him. Fourth, Loki looks to have re-joined the dark side and teamed up with Thanos. The trailer ends with Thanos throwing a punch at Captain America, who catches it and attempts to hold him off.

There is a TON going on in these trailers, and it will be very interesting to see how everything starts to come together. One thing I’m particularly excited for is the fact that Star Lord and Iron Man have some screen time together. Even though we’re only given a glimpse, it looks like that part should be a real treat. The Russo Brothers have given us some amazing action in The Winter Soldier and Civil War, and they do an excellent job developing an underlying story to go along with it. It’s sad to think that a decade of beloved Marvel movies and characters we’ve grown attached to could be coming to a close with the Infinity War movies, but all good things come to an end. It’s best to just be grateful for having gotten to enjoy them in our lifetime. I’m sure more Marvel movies will continue being released, but I have the feeling this will be the end of an era.
