The Tower Assassin’s Creed (Ketchapp Games)

Assassin’s Creed just hit its 10th anniversary in 2017 and this signified a lot with the long-running franchise including the very well rated recent release of Assassin’s Creed Origins on consoles and PC by Ubisoft. On mobile, we get this tower building game which takes developer Ketchapp’s tower building game and adds on an Assassin’s Creed skin. Simple and straightforward, the one goal is to tap to align the shifting blocks to stack them one by one and get it as high as possible. You collect gems every time the stack can’t be higher and our character dives into the hay cart below. The gems can unlock 5 other Assassin’s Creed characters, and 4 other tower designs or use it for power ups like head start, etc. For those who want a quick session mobile game to pick up and put down quickly, this definitely fits the bill, however, the game concept is a little too simple and failed to hold our attention for too long. On the plus side, the design and art style is pretty to look at in a minimalistic way.

Geometry Dash Subzero (Robtop Games)

Geometry Dash has taken quite the rage game title. Anyone who has played it knows that it takes great reflex and reaction. Over the last few years, Robtop Games has dropped games around the winter holidays phase, first with Geometry Dash Meltdown then Geometry Dash World and this year, they launched Geometry Dash Subzero. All free and mobile with three general levels. Its a question of whether they are looking for the perfect formula for the full Geometry Dash sequel or finding what they believe has the best reaction. Geometry Dash Subzero is a completely different beast of a game. One that takes everything Geometry Dash fans have learned in the original game. With that said, it also seems like it is more suitable for its older fans as it meshes different elements together and in turn, making it much more challenging than some of the usual level. However, it is a clever game as this one creates somewhat of a world and pulls out and zooms in on different screens and isn’t just the simple moving forward from left to right sort of side scrolling experience.

TypeShift

Word games have a lot of fun elements when having the right twist. TypeShift is a fun and challenging game that gives you scrambled words where every column shifts up and down. It requires quite a bit of trial and error in its base puzzles to turn all the letters green by creating as many words as possible in the least amount of time. However, what does make TypeShift also a little more different is its other game modes. One of our favorites is the clues which works a lot like crosswords where it gives a hint and then you need to make the word as it cancels out the letters available for use for the next clues. It has daily puzzles as well as a few free booster packs. If this game does attract you, there are other puzzle packs as additional purchase. However, its free portion offers hours of fun and challenge as it is.

I Love Hue (Zut Games)

I Love Hue plays on arranging shades of colors in this literally colorful game. With some relaxing music in the background and a different combination of puzzles, I Love Hue takes a basic everyday detail that we never quite focus on enough and puts it into the scenario of a basic concept of a game. Surprisingly, I Love Hue will spark a love for the minute details of different shades of colors and arranging them to replicate the puzzle before they were scrambled. There are multiple levels of difficulties. The progression of difficulty of fairly reasonable. At the same time, the in-game currency is called prisms which are rewards everyday and for completing each puzzle. It helps to unlock puzzles to play. At the same time, if you enjoy a challenge, there is also an world average of moves that other players have taken to solve the puzzles and there are achievements for beating the world average as much as possible. I Love Hue will awaken your undiscovered love for color hues and puzzles set in a relaxing atmosphere.

Splashy Dots (Crimson Pines Games)

Imagine walking into a splash art gallery? Splashy Dots takes the childhood connect the dots game and adds in a start and finish concept and a splash art creation together. For each puzzle, there is a solution which will create a piece of splash art. There is a nice progression in difficulty as there are more dots and more challenging puzzles as different levels are unlocked. Its colorful and very pleasing to watch. At the same time, it also offers a nice relaxing jazzy atmosphere to enjoy the game in. Some puzzles in the early stages may feel slightly repetitive with similar patterns showing up but once you reach the more intermediate levels, the different colors and combinations make for a nice piece of abstract art to appear. They are essentially quick little puzzles which a mobile gamer can easily pick up and put down for short bursts of fun.
