‘Ghostbusters’ (2016) Official Trailer 2 Sneak Peek

There aren’t too many people left who haven’t heard of the new Ghostbuster’s film, and no matter where you stand concerning its arrival, it’s definitely coming, and it’s gonna be big. Here’s the second trailer and pay attention to that ending. One word: Yikes.

Paul Feig’s reboot remake of the classic 1984 original has become one of the most divisive movies in history as two distinct groups of fans have hunkered down on either side of the hate or love camp. In what is most telling of that fact is its recent dichotomous title as most disliked movie trailer on YouTube ever, while simultaneously being the most anticipated movie of the summer. Go figure.

I’m in the it’s-just-a-movie-and-I’m-gonna-give-it-a-shot-and-hope-for-the-best camp, which if doesn’t exist, does now. Membership is free. This latest clips does have me a bit more excited though, and reveals a lot more of what the all-lady crew is up against with a truly awesome glimpse of the story’s main antagonist, a massive creature that looks to put the Stay-Puft Marshmallow man to . . . well, finishing that sentence admittedly feels wrong, so I’ll just let that be. But either way, this new baddie is big. But who or what is it? Best guess is a character named Rowan, played by Neil Casey. Or at least something Rowan turns into. Or worse. Gotta love that bowtie.

The clip also features some good comedy bits, most notably with the woman at a concert that is interrupted by a ghostly dragon type with an obvious affinity for Patty (Leslie Jones) and a spirit that possesses the team’s receptionist Kevin (Chris Hemsworth) whose Clark Kent glasses do nothing in making the man look geeky. The possession of Kevin is a new twist and has some potential. Hemsworth has the timing right and could give the four very funny women he co-stars with a run for their money. It should be noted that he is also wearing a Ghostbusters uniform of sorts. Will he see some ghostbusting action? I’m nodding yes.

With lots of great-looking action and a slightly darker tone, this second clip has us excited. I love the original and that won’t change. But there’s nothing threatening about this clearly respectful update and to be upset by is not just unwarranted, it’s a waste of energy. It’s a comedy. Go have fun.
