July Guide to In-Theater Movies

Monthly Movie Guide is a Monthly Series to keep you the moviegoer updated about upcoming in-theater big studio films in release.

It’s been a summer full of movie franchises so far, and July won’t be any different. Most of the month doesn’t look to be offering much, including another Purge movie, an unnecessary Equalizer sequel, and more ridiculousness from Dwayne Johnson. However, there does look to be some promise as well. The follow up to Ant-Man looks to be bringing the laughs, and the newest Mission Impossible might just be the best the franchise has had to offer.

The First Purge

JULY 4

The relentless franchise about a night allowing Americans to act without law enforcement as a means of minimizing crime is back with a prequel. This looks to be the least interesting entry into the franchise yet, and is more than likely going to be a pointless money grab.

Ant-Man and the Wasp

JULY 6

Following the surprising success of the first movie, Paul Rudd returns as Ant-Man, this time accompanied by Evangeline Lily’s, the Wasp. Certainly a franchise that doesn’t take itself too seriously and plays off of its quirkiness, expect a lot of laughs and some unique action in this sequel.

Skyscraper

JULY 13

Dwayne Johnson strikes again in this ridiculous action flick as the head of security for the tallest and most lucrative skyscraper in Hong Kong. Of course, terrorists decide to take it over, leaving it up to Johnson to save the day. Don’t get your hopes up for this cheesy, over-the-top Die Hard knock off.

The Equalizer 2

JULY 20

Denzel Washington returns as Robert McCall to exact vengeance upon those who murdered his friend in the CIA. After 2014’s The Equalizer left you wanting more, it’s hard to expect anything different from this sequel. There should be some solid action throughout and a few good one liners, but don’t hold your breath for much else.

Mission: Impossible-Fallout, 2018 © Paramount Pictures

Mission: Impossible – Fallout

JULY 27

Tom Cruise is back for his sixth run as Ethan Hunt in the newest Mission Impossible installment. From the looks of it so far, this might be the biggest mission yet featuring insane stunts, high octane action, and one hell of a mustache. With Christopher McQuarrie back at the helm, this one promises to be a hit.
