October In-Theater Movie Guide: Trailers & More

First Man, 2018 © Amblin Entertainment
Following a lackluster September at the box office highlighted by another dud of a Predator movie, October looks to be getting things back on track with some serious Oscars firepower. Joining the ride will be one of Marvel’s most famous anti-heroes, a never-ending horror franchise, and a man on the moon.

Venom

October 5

What started as a movie bringing plenty of hype and excitement has lost serious steam with each new trailer that is rolled out. Tom Hardy stars in this origin spinoff where we learn how one of Spider-Man’s biggest foes came to be. Hopefully the movie offers much better action and humor, because all we’ve seen in the trailers so far are claymation-esque visual effects.

A Star is Born

October 5

Oscar season will officially be underway on October 5th when A Star is Born drops. Bradley Cooper directs and stars in this tale about an aging, alcoholic country music star who falls in love with an up-and-coming singer (Lady Gaga). Expect this one to be getting Oscars love for acting, directing, and of course, the tunes.

Bad Times at the El Royale

Oct 12

As if a star studded cast including the likes of Jon Hamm, Chris Hemsworth, Dakota Johnson, Nick Offerman and Jeff Bridges wasn’t enough, you’ve got Drew Goddard in the director’s chair (scribe of The Martian, The Cabin in the Woods, and World War Z). This movie is about a random group of people bearing dark secrets who all stumble upon the suspicious El Royale hotel, and looks to be an anything goes type of thriller that will keep you guessing until the end.

First Man

Oct 12

Right back on the Oscar wagon we’ve got the much anticipated film that reunites La La Land director, Damien Chazelle, with his leading man, Ryan Gosling. This is the story of Neil Armstrong and the Apollo 11 space mission to the moon, along with everything that happened to get them there. Expect this one to be extremely well acted behind a strong Josh Singer (Spotlight) screenplay, with some edge of your seat tension as they venture into deep space.

Halloween

October 19

Jamie Lee Curtis returns as Lori Strode, sister of the masked maniacal murderer, Michael Myers, as the Halloween franchise is back on the big screen…again. The trailers aren’t generating much excitement as this looks to be another generic slasher movie, doing nothing to move the needle or spark the franchise.
