Sugar Slide: The Path Home is a 2016 mobile game from Upopa Games, the developers of the brutally adorable game Hopeless. Their latest puzzle game tells the story of sweets Fred and Ginger who are trying to find their way back home as they wander lost in Candy Forest.
The objective of Sugar Slide is to move various sliding tiles to connect a path for Fred and Ginger to reach the flagged destination. The game works under accumulating stars from finding the path in the least amount of moves. Each level can earn up to three stars. The accumulated stars will then open up the next area or game pack. Each new area brings a new challenge with a different type of tile that will make anticipating and coordinating the moves to the solution trickier. While Sugar Slide may have a very familiar gameplay in terms of puzzles and their level unlocking system, the levels do become rather entertainingly challenging. What we mean by this is that there is a decent learning curve in every batch of levels unlocked. At times, the key to our puzzle is to think outside of the box or even simpler than initially imagined. It works our planning and strategizing skills to figure out a solution by visualizing how the path will form with each move that we make. The challenge of going back rarely becomes tedious especially after realizing that going back to gather the amount of stars required means to work out a better solution and this eventually aids in our progress in the next area. It never feels like it is getting more challenging and that is because the combination of obstacles are implemented tastefully.

For that, it truly creates a world where we can play this game completely without spending anything more as long as you are willing to continue working through puzzles and finding the best solution. This shows a confidence in their game and their players who will embrace it enough to go through some grind to unlock it all for free while always having the option to purchase the next pack whenever they want to get through it quicker. These options are greatly appreciated even if many other developers seldom execute it well.
Aside from that, Sugar Slide offers colorful worlds are always fun to play. The Candy Forest changes through the different pack progression and yet still remains charming to look at.
