The Avengers Still Tops Highest-Grossing Superhero Movies of All Time
Our idea of superheroes has been shaped by the characters created in comic books. Top names in comics like Marvel and DC have introduced the world to some of the most memorable characters on film as well as in console and casino games and TV shows. This list includes some of the top earning superhero films.
The Avengers (2012) $1.519 billion
Even though installment films have since followed, the original Avengers movie is still the top grossing film. Thor’s (Chris Hemsworth) evil brother, Loki (Tom Hiddleston), obtains the power of an energy cube and poses a grave threat to the earth. The SHIELD director, portrayed by Samuel L. Jackson recruits the Avengers to save the world.
Captain America: Civil War (2016) $1.153 billion
This recent release again featured the Avengers but with a different feeling. The group actually is having problems as tensions arise between Iron Man and Captain America. The controversy surrounds the creation of a panel selected to keep watch over the group. The original cast again returns to their roles.
Spider-Man 3 (2007) $890.9 million
Toby Maguire again plays Peter Parker and his alter ego, Spider-Man. This film sees a conflict within Spider-Man himself as his suit changes into jet black revealing his darker side. Parker struggles inside to overcome the evil side of him to the good.
Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice (2016) $873.3 million
In this top film, Batman feels that Superman’s powers are getting out of hand and he seeks to check them. The role of Batman is played by Ben Affleck while Henry Cavill stars as Superman. This film not only did well in the US but also was a top box office draw in Brazil, Japan and Russia.
Given the success of comic inspired movies, it should be of little surprise that more superhero movies are due to come out in the years to come. Will one of these movies end up making this list?
