Westworld is back and looking better than ever in the newest season 2 trailer. Season 1 ended in utter chaos as Dr. Robert Ford (Anthony Hopkins) was killed at the hands of Dolores Abernathy (Evan Rachel Wood), and a horde of reactivated hosts was shown ready for an uprising. We also learned that Westworld is not one of a kind, and we got a glimpse of the samurai filled Shogun World. Season 2 seems to be promising plenty of action as we delve deeper into the maze of Westworld, while war ensues between hosts and humans.

Season 2 appears to pick up right where we left as the Westworld security has set up an operations base to contain the reactivated, rebelling hosts. We’re shown the hosts roaming freely and see Teddy Flood (James Marsden) tell Dolores that they’ve rode for 10 miles and have found nothing but blood. This seems to be exactly what Dolores wants, though, as we also hear her talking about the reckoning she is bringing. Dolores may even escape Westworld this season, as we see her donning modern clothes, overlooking a city from a balcony

Meanwhile, Maeve Millay (Thandie Newton), who we last saw exiting a train that would’ve brought her to the real world, is back on the hunt for her daughter. We see her waking up Hector Escaton (Rodrigo Santoro), who had helped her try to escape in season 1. So it looks as though they’ll be working in tandem again, and she may have enlisted him to aid in finding her daughter. Maeve is also shown in the Shogun World, so she may also be spending some time exploring the other worlds in Season 2.

Throughout the rest of the trailer we see plenty of the hosts rebelling as Westworld security tracks them down wielding machine guns and driving buggies. And then of course we have The Man in Black (Ed Harris) back. We’re shown him talking to an unknown host and telling them that he’s going to burn the whole place to the ground. His younger self, William (Jimmi Simpson), is also shown in the trailer with Dolores, so we should get some more background on his origin story as well.

Admittedly, I had a little trouble following Westworld season 1 at times. Despite that, I still found the show to be amazing. I thought that it was filmed unbelievably well, the sets and landscapes were amazing, it featured a phenomenal cast, and just has a really cool premise. It’s the type of show where the sky truly is the limit, and I was so excited to see that there are indeed other worlds out there. It’ll be very interesting to see where the main storyline takes us, and hopefully Jonathan Nolan gives us a good taste of what the other worlds (mainly Shogun) have to offer. Based on the involvement of other worlds, we should get an idea of where the future direction of the show will be taking us. I wouldn’t be surprised to see spinoffs starting in the next few years because this premise could be a total cash cow for HBO for quite some time.
