A group of popular improv performers feel the pressure when one of them gets a chance to chase their dreams, leaving the rest to realize that not all of them are really going to make. It’s Don’t Think Twice.
The story of people who are professionally funny have been fodder for many, many movies, and often they reveal that behind the laughs there is heartache and broken dreams. Just like everyone else. This latest film centers on the close-companionship of a troupe of popular New York City improv actors who all share the same dream, but hadn’t really considered what would happen when only one of them gets it. When scouts for the hugely popular Weekend Live (a take on SNL) come to a show, one member takes the opportunity to get more attention and lands a coveted part on the sketch comedy show. It has major repercussions.
Written and directed by Mike Birbiglia, Don’t Think Twice looks at the underbelly of showbiz where the bottom feeders all hope to make it to where the big fish swim. Starring Keegan-Michael Key, Gillian Jacobs, Kate Micucci and Birbiglia among other, the film focuses on the sacrifices and hardships, bitterness and closeness of a team that has worked together for more than ten years while coming to terms not only with their path in life but the consequences of doing what they love.
