On Netflix Now: ‘Don’t Think Twice’

Don’t Think Twice is a 2016 comedy drama about a member of a popular New York City improv troupe who gets a huge break, leaving the rest of the group to realize that not everyone is going to make it after all.

Hopefully somewhere along the way you got hooked on the comedy show Key & Peele, one of the funniest skit shows on television. From there, you already know then that Keegan-Michael Key is a force of nature and easily one of the most talented improv artists in the business. With Mike Birbiglia‘s Don’t Think Twice, he stars basically as an early version of himself in some ways, an upstart improv comedian looking to get a break, taking his chance when a big opportunity comes. This upsets the cart of the regular troupe he’s part of, including Allison (Kate Micucci), Samantha (Gillian Jacobs), and Miles (Birbiglia) to name a few. While there is a lot of great laughs here, it’s also a touching drama with hard-working people who have found their niche in life one that doesn’t get a lot of attention, but worse, hard to make a living with. Even as good as the story is, it’s also a cool look behind the scenes of sorts to such a career, and the entire cast really pulls off a hat trick doing great comedy, solid drama, and convincing us it all seems real. THE LAST WORD

An absolutely winning cast make this story easy to get behind and there are well-earned laughs and tears. This is a very satisfying little gem that won’t disappoint.

If you’re no fan of comedy improv, which is a decidedly odd thing from the start, this might be a big step in winning you over, with plenty of on stage successes and failures.
