On Netflix Now: ‘Absolutely Anything’
Absolutely Anything is a 2015 comedy about a group of eccentric aliens who confer a human being with the power to do absolutely anything, as an experiment.
I’m going to say two things: Monty Python and Robin Williams. That’s probably got your attention if you have even the remotest modicum of funny in your bones. Putting them together would seem just the thing to get some laughs, and so it was that Python vet Terry Jones came back from a twenty year directing hiatus to bring us Absolutely Anything, a cosmic story of a lovable loser named Neil (Simon Pegg) who, by random selection from a group of alien supreme beings, grant him unlimited power to do anything he wants. If he uses it for good, Earth will be admitted into the fold. If he is evil, well, total destruction. To be sure, this is a dreadful movie. Awful. Head-scratchingly bad. However, it’s also impossible to peel your eyes off it once you start. Why? Because you won’t believe what is happening and you’ll wonder what the heck will happen next.
