Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse is a new take on the popular character focusing instead on Miles Morales becoming the new Spider-Man and teaming up with other people from the Spider-Verse.
After the disappointing mess known as Venom, Sony needed to do something great with their set of Marvel characters. Luckily, their new animated film titled Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse is here to fill the void of many fans who might have been disappointed from some unfortunate installments of this popular superhero. This time around, a teenager named Miles Morales becomes the new Spider-Man and teams up with other heroes from the Spider-Verse to stop the Kingpin from destroying New York City with his supercollider. Directed by Bob Persichetti, Peter Ramsey and Rodney Rothman, this new take on the character feels fresh and stylish, while still being a lot of fun!
The main aspect that really stands out as the best part of the entire film is the animation! It’s so beautifully done, and it makes you feel like you’re in a comic book. By using different animation techniques, it’s actually quite innovative. Comic book fans will appreciate and love the aesthetics of Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, but it can still appeal to casual moviegoers who just want a fun time at the movie theatre. As a superhero flick, it also has some great action sequences. Once again, it’s just amazing seeing Spider-Man take down some baddies such as the Green Goblin and Scorpion in a very stylish way. It’s well-paced throughout, and it takes its time developing its characters and the world they live in. You can tell the writers Phil Lord and Rodney Rothman are passionate about the source material as they bring a lot of depth and humor to the film. If you’re a huge Spider-Man fan, you will have a great time noticing all the fun Easter eggs.
While the Peter Parker iteration has been Spider-Man for many installments, the idea of making Miles Morales the main hero for this movie is genius! He’s a likeable kid trying his best to fit in at school, while also wanting to do something with his life. Shameik Moore does a great job bringing this character to life, and he makes the audience care about him from start to finish. He’s not a perfect teenager, which makes it interesting to see him develop into a courageous and skilled superhero as the film goes on. His chemistry with his mentor Peter Parker (Jake Johnson) is one of the highlights of the film, and it’s always intriguing whenever you see these two characters interacting with each other on screen. It’s just cool seeing a veteran teaching someone the basics of becoming hero.
In the end, the Sonyverse might be going in the right direction if they keep on making great animated Spider-Man films. The filmmakers worked really hard bringing the audience a unique and highly entertaining cinematic experience with its great voice acting, humor, action sequences and animation! Even if you have superhero fatigue, don’t miss out on seeing this! Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse is not only one of the best animated films of the year, it’s also one of the best superhero movies of all time!
