Adderall as a drug was introduced to the market as a treatment of ADHD and narcolepsy. The components of Adderall which were a racemic mix of amphetamine salts was were discovered in the 1900s. It was actually introduced to the market as a treatment of completely different ailments like depression and nasal congested, then it was marketed as a treatment of obesity. What many don’t know is that amphetamines were widely used in World War 2 by soldiers as a stimulant and as a performance-enhancing drug. 
There were countless conditions that Adderall was prescribed for, this all met a sudden stop when the addictive and disastrous effect of misuse of the drug were known in the 70s. Physical side effects are too big to list in here, but they included cardiovascular, sexual, gastrointestinal, and respiratory system side effects. The psychological side effects varied from one person to another, depending on the dose; the worst being a psychosis, where the user becomes delusional.

The pharmaceutical pressure from lobbying is doing its job perfectly when children of 8 years can be prescribed Adderall by a doctor in a 20-minute check-up. 
Performance Enhancing Properties
The problem with Adderall addiction is that the individual may not notice that their addiction is destroying them. Adderall is a performance enhancing drug; students can pull all-nighters and study for long hours without even the need to take a pee break, the drug suddenly becomes a life-saver that can save any student in a pinch. People on a low dose of Adderall can look highly active and healthy, unlike heroin addicts for example, in pursuit of the drug’s benefits, people start ignoring the risks that are also associated with it.
Recreational Use
Amphetamines can produce euphoria, increased focus, sociability, and increased sexual desire. This makes it the perfect drug of choice in social settings like parties in the pop culture. The ease of obtaining the drug through legal channels made obtaining it through illegal ones almost too much trouble. It’s easy for anyone to visit a psychologist to provide them with the right set of symptoms and then receive an Adderall prescription.
Adderall’s Influence
Being a performance-enhancing drug, it sure made its way into athletic channels, a lot of scandals involve players who are doped on amphetamines to perform better in sports. No one said that Adderall is the devil, it sure has a lot of benefits for those who actually need it. The root of the problem is its influence on pop culture; a lot of people introduce it to others as the hip and cool solution to almost any problem.
