Film: Miss Potter (2006)
Summary: A spinster, who enjoys writing and illustrating stories for children, finds an unexpected romance, and deeper meaning for her life, in her search to become a published author in Victorian England.
Review: Renee Zellweger’s portrayal of Beatrix Potter gives deep insight into her struggles to write her own life story, in spite of personal tragedy, and the disapproval of her parents and rigid dictates of society. We travel along with her on this journey as Beatrix becomes a published author, fiancé, and as a grieving single woman, a landowner, and farmer. In time, she also becomes a wife to a man who loves the Lake District of England, as much as she does.
“There’s something delicious about writing the first few lines of a story. You can never quite tell where they’ll take you. Mine took me here, where I belong.” Beatrix said, as she sat on a hillside overlooking a beautiful lake.

The Moment: Her decision to leave her parent’s home in London, to leave the social life that she found so empty, and become a farm owner in the country, was her heart’s happy choice. In an era when it was rare for women to own land, or to be good business managers, Beatrix Potter bought and ran a farm as a successful working farm. Miss Potter eventually gave back to the people of England, who so eagerly purchased her books, by donating over 4,000 acres of preserved farmland in the beautiful Lake District of England. This is an endearing story.
