How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World is the third and final chapter of the How to Train Your Dragon series.

Besides the Toy Story series, it’s hard to think of a truly outstanding animated film trilogy. Luckily, we now have How to Train Your Dragon as another great example of an amazing animated franchise! Acting as the final chapter of the trilogy, How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World really feels like a satisfying end to a fantastic journey with these fun and imaginative characters. Directed once again by Dean DeBlois, he’s been around making these movies for a long time, and you can tell he’s genuinely passionate of coming up with a solid conclusion to a series he has worked on for many years.

Taking place after the events of the second installment, Hiccup (Jay Baruchel) and his friends are rescuing dragons captured by the evil Grimmel and his gang of hunters. (F. Murray Abraham) His loyal dragon Toothless, a Night Fury, finds out that he’s not the only one of his kind and falls in love with another dragon called the “Light Fury”. After his father has told him a story about a place titled the “Hidden World”, a safe haven for dragons, Hiccup decides to find it in order to get them away from Grimmel. Taking responsibility as the leader of Berk, he’s going to do everything it takes to fulfill his legacy as a true Viking.

What the How to Train Your Dragon series does really well is that each installment looks absolutely spectacular. The animation is stunning, and it’s amazing to see this imaginative world come to life. This is one of those movies that is highly recommended to be seen in 3D, and it will definitely make it an immersive experience. Also, when action sequences are happening on screen, you’re going to be entertained for sure. They’re so much fun to watch, and you can feel the tension whenever Hiccup and Toothless are teaming up to fight Grimmel and his dragon hunters.

While the visuals and action sequences are always top-notch, the heartfelt friendship between Hiccup and Toothless is the highlight of the film. Since the first installment, they have constantly evolved, and it’s nice to see that. Their bond has always been the best part of each movie, and it keeps on growing as the franchise goes on. The beginning is admittedly a little slow, but then the second and third act really shine thanks to their touching friendship. Character development is one of the main aspects DeBlois truly excels at, and it’s something that both kids and adults will really appreciate.

How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World is a fulfilling and emotional conclusion to an epic series, and it deserves to be known as one of the best film trilogies of all time! It does a great job wrapping up the franchise in a truly satisfying way, and you will be proud to have seen it grow as one of the best animated movie series. As the third and final chapter of a fantastic trilogy, The Hidden World is a heartfelt and visually stunning piece of cinema.
