Netflix Daily Pick: Spilling the Beans in ‘Lovesick’ (2014)

Today's pick is a series about a young man and is sexual past.

Lovesick is a original series about a young man who, after finding out he has an STD, must get back in touch with every girl he has ever had sex with to let them know the bad news.

Today’s Netflix pick is actually a TV show originally titled Scrotal Recall thankfully renamed Lovesick. I say thankfully because I would have never stopped in my Netflix scrolling for a show called Scrotal Recall … never. I’m so glad that it was renamed and that I did stop and that I did watch it because it is one of those rare hidden gems that is well worth the watch and maybe even a second viewing. And it’s what you’re watching tonight. Here’s why.

THE STORY: Dylan (Johnny Flynn) has just found out that he has an STD and has to contact every woman that he has had sex with to let them know so that they can go get themselves tested.  One such woman is his best friend, Evie (Antonia Thomas), who may or may not still have feelings for Dylan. With support from Evie and his other best friend and notorious womanizer, Luke (Daniel Ings), Dylan starts on his quest to track down all the women from his past and pass on the bad news.

WHY YOU NEED TO WATCH: Lovesick is sweet and sentimental without being sappy and cliche; hilarious and clever without dissolving into slapstick and crass quips; heartfelt and meaningful without being obnoxious and preachy. The characters are wonderful and so well developed, gaining depth as the series continues and solidly lodging themselves in the hearts of the viewers by the end. Even though the premise alone is enough to keep the show going for quite a while, the sub-plots and interactions that happen along the way are what really makes the show worth watching.  This British comedy currently has two seasons on Netflix which end on a bit of a cliffhanger so you will be relieved to hear that it has been bought by Netflix and they are going to be producing a third season with eight episodes. So if you’re in the mood for something terribly clever, utterly hilarious and just the right amount of heartfelt, this is a great pick for you.
