On Netflix Now: ‘Beauty and the Beast’

Beauty and the Beast is a 2017 family musical and an adaptation of the fairy tale about a monstrous-looking prince and a young woman who fall in love.

Some panned the idea of remaking the already award-winning Disney animated film into a live-action film believing it at best, superfluous, yet on its release, it did spectacularly well, becoming one of the most successful movies of last year and earning high praise along the way. Emma Watson stars as Belle, a young woman and avid reader who is pursued by the arrogant and narrow-minded Gaston (Luke Evans). One day, her father, lost in the woods, comes to find a mysterious unknown castle where inside he is captured by the ferocious Beast (Dan Stevens), a creature dour and seemingly doomed to a lifetime of misery. Belle soon comes upon the magical place as well, looking for her father, and takes his place in a deal, finding that the entire estate is populated by objects come to life, such as a candelabra, a clock, a teapot, and more. In time, she and the Beast develop a fondness for each other and she learns of his cursed past. The film is very faithful to the beloved original and Watson is well cast in the cherished role. Great visual effects and loads of family wonder to behold, this makes for a solid pick if you’ve got children in need of imagination inspiration.

THE LAST WORD

Beautiful to look at with many well produced and sung songs, this is is great for kids to enjoy and a pack of nostalgic bliss for many parents.

Sugary sweet and a bit long it has its flaws and many still find the animated original much more superior, the live-action limiting the sort of invested fantasy of the first’s style.
