On Netflix Now: ‘Along Came Polly’

Along Came Polly is a 2004 comedy romance about a buttoned up newlywed who finds his too organized life falling into chaos when he falls in love with an old classmate.

Tons of charm and loads of great chemistry with the leads makes this just what it intends and a good night at the movies.

Not very challenging and sort of a clone of a half dozen others like it, this is predictable but satisfying.

It wasn’t too far back when it was all Jennifer Aniston all the time, and no matter what you think of her work on Friends and most of her movies, she’s undeniably fun to watch. Cast a whole heck of a lot in romcoms, with John Hamburg‘s Along Came Polly, she doesn’t stray too far from expectation, but is nonetheless almost all the reason why to tune in. She’s the titular Polly, the love interest of Reuben Feffer (Ben Stiller) a guy so wound up in his life, he can barely breathe. When his new wife ends up having an affair on their honeymoon, Reuben decides to mix things up and take a chance on the free-spirited Polly and of course, chaos ensues. Not quite as raucous as There’s Something About Mary, the film does follow that recipe and manages to offer up some genuine laughs and a few solid moments. Plus, you know, there’s the incomparable Philip Seymour Hoffman so, yeah, lots of greatness there, too. Read more about the film here.
