On Netflix Now: ‘Seeking a Friend For the End Of The World’

Seeking a Friend for the End Of the World is a 2012 drama about a man who finds himself alone, deciding to take a road trip to reunite with his high school sweetheart, taking along a neighbor who inadvertently puts a wrench in his plan.

Light and fun with some really great chemistry from the leads make this a very funny but also very emotional night at the movies.

Quirky to a fault, if you’re no fan of romance with plenty of subtext, this might be a pass.

The title of director Lorena Scafaria‘s quirky drama Seeking a Friend For The End of The World might seem like a dead giveaway, but there’s a lot about this little gem that will surely surprise. Steve Carell is Dodge Petersen, a guy with a problem. His wife left him after news of an Earth-ending asteroid changed everything though not much for him. As the world sheds any sense of civilization, descending into carefree orgies and drug-induced chaos, Dodge pretty much goes about his business until he notices his neighbor Penny (Keira Knightley) crying on the fire escape. She, too, is alone and so the two decide to stick together, going on a journey to see Dodge fulfill a dream to find his one true love, instead finding something altogether different along the way. Smart, funny, and very touching, this is an uncommon film that is a must see for fans of things just a little left of center.
