Solo: A Star Wars Story Trailer

Solo: A Star Wars Story is a 2018 sci-fi adventure film about the Han Solo meeting his future copilot Chewbacca and encounters Lando Calrissian years before joining the Rebellion.

We’ve recently been greeted with a new trailer for Solo: A Star Wars Story, the latest spin-off in the Star Wars world. The first trailer offered enough to wet our appetite, but we are now able to peel back the curtains a bit more to see what to expect from the soon-to-be blockbuster.

In this trailer we get an idea of what the main plot of the film is going to be. Self-proclaimed flier and driver, Han Solo (Alden Ehrenreich), teams up with criminal Tobias Beckett (Woody Harrelson) to carry out a job for big shot gangster, Dryden Vos (Paul Bettany). Also a part of their team is the mysterious Qi’Ra (Emilia Clarke) who we hear at one point attempting to figure out what the driving force behind Solo is (which we are still unsure of). The team is in need of a ship, so Qi’Ra points them to Lando Carlrissian (Donald Glover) who they meet over a game of poker. Carlissian presumably has the Millennium Falcon, which the crew will be looking to commandeer. Things most likely go awry which results in the rag-tag crew being pitted against Vos, and possibly The Empire (due to the sighting of some TIE Fighters). The remainder of the trailer is pieced together by giving glimpses of what we can expect from some of the main action sequences, which includes plenty of time in the Falcon.

All-in-all, this movie looks really good. I imagine that the story will be simple yet intriguing with a few plot twists here and there. I will say that it’s always a bit disconcerting when you see someone trying to re-do a classic character. Han Solo is one of the all-time greats, and was a scene stealer in every Star Wars films. Harrison Ford is a big reason why that role was so memorable, so fingers crossed that Ehrenreich can fill his shoes. I’m not saying outperforming the predecessor can’t be done (Heath Ledger’s Joker), but it’s not uncommon for the successor to fall short of expectations (Jared Leto’s Joker). Also, one thing I found a bit peculiar was how the trailer didn’t feel like it was for a Star Wars movie until I heard the theme song play at the end. I’m ok with that because I thought that Rogue One had a bit less of the classic Star Wars feel to it and was a great movie nonetheless. It just struck me as a bit odd. Either way, it looks like we’re in for a wild ride with plenty of action, thrills, and laughs throughout.
