The Upside is a 2019 comedy/drama about a comedic look at the relationship between a wealthy paraplegic and an unemployed man with a criminal record who’s hired to help him.
While this kind of story is nothing new, with a troubled someone confined to a wheelchair having an unconventional stranger enter their lives and give them new perspective, the casting of Bryan Cranston and Kevin Hart in the leads seem like a solid match, both able to mix comedy and drama well. The trailer goes straight for the emotional juggler as is expected, however there’s always room in the cinematic landscape for some real life inspiration. Based on the French film Intouchables, let’s hope this one pays off as it promises.
